League of Legends System Requirements

To fully enjoy and be good at the game, your laptop must be able to flawlessly render the game in real-time at the highest frame rate possible. The more frames per second you see, the more quickly you can respond. Unfortunately, no matter how skillful you are, you’ll never be competitive in the game as long as terrible visuals and low frame rates interfere with your gameplay.

And that’s why a laptop must meet the official system requirements.

MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

  • OS: Win 7, 8, 10
  • CPU: Intel Core i3-530 or AMD A6-3650
  • GPU: NVidia GeForce 9600GT or AMD HD 6570 or Intel HD 4600 Integrated Graphics
  • System Memory: 2 GB RAM
  • Storage: 16 GB HDD

RECOMMENDED SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

  • OS: Win 10
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-3300 or AMD Ryzen 3 1200
  • GPU: NVidia GeForce GTX 560 or AMD Radeon HD 6950 or Intel UHD 630 Integrated Graphics
  • System Memory: 4 GB RAM
  • Storage: 16 GB SSD

What are League of Legends Laptop Requirements?

The laptop hardware is always weaker than the desktop counterparts. Especially the CPU and GPU. The reason comes down to cooling and power consumption.

Compared to other types of video games, MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) games such as LoL are relatively light on the system requirements. Therefore, playing these games on a mid-range notebook with decent frame rates is sure possible.

But as we all know, gaming is an ongoing hobby, and our priorities and tastes may shift over time. You may one day get bored playing LoL and want to shift to some other, maybe hardware heavier game.

This is why we recommend buying a proper gaming laptop, so you won’t need to replace your laptop once again to play another game.

What laptop parts are important?

The most important computer parts for a decent gaming laptop for League of Legends are undoubtedly the graphics card (GPU or graphics processing unit) and processor (CPU). But, of course, there are other important aspects to consider. Like the size and resolution of the display, the amount and type of RAM, the size of the solid-state drive, and more. But the GPU and CPU are what you should focus on.

Graphics Card (or GPU)

LoL may look like a 2D isometric game, but it actually has a complete 3D engine. It uses a standard camera moving on a plane above the ground to make an isometric feel. Ingame, there are several 3D objects (such as minions, towers, and buildings), champions, spells, and effects to be rendered at the same time. Because of this, a good graphics card is essential for League of Legends.

Some may say that League of Legends can be run on any laptop, even with integrated GPUs, such as Intel UHD graphics. But laptops with a dedicated GPU will allow you to play the game at high settings and resolutions. The game will run smoother, and as you’ll be able to see more details, it will result in a better overall experience.

That’s why Riot Games recommends having a proper dedicated GeForce GTX 560. But for today’s standards, it’s pretty obsolete, and it’s recommended to go for the RTX 3000 Series GPU series for the best experience.

Processor (or CPU)

General performance depends a lot on the graphics card, but the processor must still be able to handle all the game data.

But worry not. All the laptops listed here feature high-end gaming CPUs well above the requirements. Starting with Intel Core i7-11370H, they can all process the game easily.

AMD Ryzen or Intel Core?

Whether running League of Legends on AMD Ryzen or Intel Core processor doesn’t really matter, as neither will make much difference if they are within the same processor power range. The most important thing is that the CPU must be within the system requirements.

System Memory or RAM

The system memory aspect isn’t that much of a factor. LoL requires only 2 GB (4 recommended), and this amount of RAM we find is almost in any laptop nowadays.

Display

Regarding resolution: It’s simple. The more resolution display has, the more you see. For the best gaming experience, the recommended resolution is FullHD (1920 x 1080 pixels). Anything smaller than this is obsolete.

Refresh rate: Today’s dedicated graphics cards are capable of real-time rendering way above 60 fps. To see things more fluently (especially for fast camera movement) and to actually benefit from high frames per second, a refresh rate of a display must be as high as possible. For the smoothest gameplay, conventional 60 Hz (which may be interpreted as 60 fps) displays are not enough, and today’s best laptops have displays capable even of up to 300 Hz.

At least 120 Hz is recommended.

Screen size: It depends on how portable you want your laptop for League of Legends to be, but we find 15.6 inches to be just the right. It’s no coincidence that 15.6-inch laptops are the most common on the market. We’re not saying you should avoid other screen sizes, especially 17 inches, but 15.6″ is a sweet spot for portability and still getting a large enough screen to enjoy the game.

What is a good framerate?

The lowest framerate at which any game may still be enjoyed is usually set at 30 FPS. However, 60 FPS+ is generally the ideal target since the game feels more fluid and responsive, and you benefit a lot in more competitive sessions.

That being said, on a laptop with a 60Hz screen, only up to 60 FPS is able to be displayed anyway. That’s why you’ll need a laptop with a 120Hz screen or more If you want to enjoy playing at higher framerates.

Storage

League of Legends requires only around 16 GB of free space. However, since we find a 256GB disk drive a bit too small for today’s size of all digital content, it’s best to have at least a 512GB SSD drive in your laptop.

If you keep much other stuff on your laptop, like movies and games, go for 1TB or even larger. But, of course, it would impact the overall price of a laptop.

How is laptop cooling important for gaming?

During gaming sessions, the laptop produces a lot of heat. In case of overheating, the system automatically “under-clock” the CPU and GPU to protect the components from damage.

This is why best laptops have an effective cooling system to efficiently disperse the heat and prevent the processor and graphics card from throttling, which would result in a significant fps drop.
